Landed cost of an import
What each unit bought outside the EU really costs you: goods, freight, insurance, duties, VAT and costs up to your warehouse.
You set the duty rates
They depend on the goods code and origin. Check them in the European Commission's TARIC database or with your customs agent.
Enter your data: no value is filled in for you.

Save each version with “Save” and it will appear here.Save this import and calculate another (another supplier, Incoterm or country) to compare them side by side.
Calculation version: supply@1.0.0. Duty lookup: TARIC (European Commission).
How to use it
- 1Choose your purchase Incoterm: it decides which items are already included in the price.
- 2Enter the invoice value, the exchange rate and the costs you pay; tick the ones already confirmed by an invoice or quote.
- 3Look up the customs duty for your goods code in TARIC and enter the applicable VAT.
How it calculates
- Customs value = goods + freight, insurance, loading and handling costs up to entry into the EU that aren't in the price (Union Customs Code, arts. 70 and 71).
- Duties = customs value × duty rate (+ other duties, such as anti-dumping).
- VAT base = customs value + duties + incidental costs up to the first destination in the EU (Directive 2006/112/EC, arts. 85 and 86).
- Landed cost excl. VAT = customs value + duties + post-border costs.
Verifiable example
An FOB purchase of USD 20,000 (at €0.90/USD = €18,000) with €2,400 of freight and 0.3% insurance (€61.20): customs value of €20,461.20. With a 4% duty (€818.45) and €1,100 of destination costs, the cost excl. VAT is €22,379.65, i.e. €22.38 per unit for 1,000 units; 21% VAT is €4,699.73.
Limitations
- It doesn't replace tariff classification or clearance by a customs agent.
- It doesn't calculate excise duties, quotas, origin preferences or trade defence measures: enter them as “other duties”.
- With DAP, the transport leg within the EU is part of the price and can't be separated without the seller's breakdown.
